Unless you work in a large warehouse or office building, the need for a warehouse door buzzer for the back and front doors may not be a big deal to you. As a small business owner, I cannot tell you how many times we’ve waited for UPS, FedEx and the Postal Service for packages to get delivered or picked up.

It’s easy for employees to worry about not hearing a warehouse doorbell when that delivery truck is out back. So with this in mind, it has always struck me as odd that builders rarely ever put wired doorbells in their facility when building out a commercial space.  I assume there may be situations when tenants may not need a loud door alarm, but more often than not, they will surely want to know when someone comes to the front or back of their facility. It’s one of those situations when it’s better to have a warehouse door buzzer installed than not.

Office Buildings and Warehouse Spaces Require a Long Range Wireless Doorbell System

long range doorbell for businessIf a visitor notification system is not installed at your facility, but you want one, running the bell wire and installing a complete system isn’t as feasible as you may think. A wireless system may be the answer for tenants. In a matter of seconds, loud, industrial wireless door bells can be installed and you can have a fully functional long-range wireless chime system in your warehouse. Until recently, however, there have been some major limitations.

Specifically, most wireless systems do not have the long range, or power, needed for commercial applications. The building products used in commercial applications, such as re-barb, concrete, steel, etc., have a negative impact on the wireless range of a product.

We tell our customers, is that for every wall in a commercial application the wireless signal has to penetrate, the signal will degrade by 30 percent each time it passes through the wall. A standard 150 ft. wireless chime would actually have a range more like this in a facility with two walls between the front door and an office:

  • 150 ft. x .70= 105 ft. range after penetrating the first wall.
  • If there is a second wall, then take the 105 ft. and degrade that signal by 30 percent. 105 ft. x .70= 73 ft.

A wireless system with a functional range of 73 ft. may work fine in most residential environments, but we find that it simply isn’t enough in commercial applications.

Compare that range with a wireless door chime like the LH-2500 which has a range of up to 2,500 ft. The LH-2500 is a doorbell system with a range of up to 2,500 feet. The system is expandable, meaning you can add more receivers and more push buttons, extending the listening area and doors covered. Another great feature about the LH-2500 is that it’s compatible with a wide range of products such as a PIR sensor, a push button, outdoor PIR sensors you can use to monitor the driveway and much more.

Upgrading Your System at Work

While a wireless system may sound complicated, it is actually simple to choose the product you need. Wireless doorbells are made of two major parts: a transmitter and a receiver. This is often referred to as the button and the sound unit. Each system usually comes with its specific range published by the manufacturer. The standard reach is about 200 feet which requires closer installation so that you will get a better connection and signal. But units with a long range definitely surpass the standard range by a significant length. As such, the components may be installed further from each other, but can get the same quality of signal and connection.

The transmitter may be installed on the front or back door. For convenience, you can mount several receivers in different areas of your home, warehouse or office. Wireless systems run through frequencies. The frequency of the sound and the button units must be the same in order for it to work. The frequencies of the device can be managed manually, but some of the brands in the market may not work properly together.

In buying a new system, it is highly recommended to purchase as a set. If this is not possible, make sure that the units are of the same brand. The installation of a wireless system is a simple process.  Make sure that both components have proper batteries installed, if needed.  The transmitter should then be fastened securely on the outside of a wall, which is closest to your door. The receiver can be placed in any location so long as it is still covered by the range. Be mindful of concrete walls and metal doors, as they can block a signal.

Some high-end versions of wireless chimes come with an intercom or video option. While this might not be necessary to some, there are also users who appreciate it as added protection and safety. This allows homeowners and employers the ability to check who is outside before permitting entrance. There are also some models which come with a flashing light feature. This is necessary for those who suffer from hearing impairment.

The next step is for you to research some of the leading models that are on the market. Make sure to compare the features, ratings, prices and reviews about the products. Doing so will help assure that you make a purchase that is best for your situation.
